『現代ダンディズムのための信条および技術』(English follows Japanese)
全国United Arrowsやロサンゼルス現代美術館（MOCA）などで配布・販売される「New Gentleman’s Hand Book」に30篇の詩を書き下ろしました（背表紙にも掲載）。
日本語詩を英訳するのは初。異なる言語で行間を照らす作業はとても楽しいものでした。USの翻訳者さん、編集者さん、UAさん、ありがとうございました。
Beliefs & Techniques for Modern Dandyism
I wrote 30 poems (that also appear on the back cover) for the “New Gentleman’s Hand Book” that is distributed and sold nationwide at United Arrows and the Los Angeles Contemporary Museum of Art (MOCA).
It was the first time my poems had been translated into English. It was tremendously fun illuminating between the lines of the differing languages. Thank you very much to the U.S. translators, editors and United Arrows.

シャツよりも季節に袖を通せ。
流行は夕立のように過ぎると知れ。
愚痴を言いそうになったらポケットチーフを食え。
ファッションの海を裸で泳ぎきれ。
多くを語るより、一篇の詩を書け。
その腕時計は川に投げ捨てろ。
甘ったるい匂いをさせて蜂に刺されるな。
服を買う前にスタイルを知れ。
ブレスレットはするな。
3年に一度、すべてを捨てること。
約束を破ったら、一度、腹を切れ。
思い出に浸るのは1日3分までにしろ。
金のことは、もう言うな。
恋人と雨音の数を数えろ。
煙草を吸うよりは雲を作れ。
ファッション雑誌は見る前に燃やせ。
時には自分自身をクリーニングに出せ。
くるぶしを出しすぎて風邪をひくな。
ひとりのテーブルでも皿の上を整えろ。
ワインの香りを何かにたとえるな。
時間という若さの馬鹿野郎たちに媚びるな。
お洒落だと思うなら、着た切り雀になれ。
iPhoneをハンマーで叩き、魂を身体に戻せ。
折り畳み傘を持ち歩く臆病者になるな。
内ポケットに心の優しさを忘れるな。
嘘をついてネクタイを締めるな。
スーツをオーダーし、笑うために生きろ。
書物を読み、書物を纏え。
ダンディズムはSNSではなく自らの足跡に残せ。
大衆を撃ち、孤独の中で洗練に恋をしろ。
【memo】
「ダンディならば、鏡の前で生き、鏡の前で死ね」（シャルル・ボードレール）。ダンディズムというのは、ファッションのみを示すのではなく、大衆に背を向け、孤高の精神を持って生きる姿勢にある。ボードレールをはじめ、バイロン卿やオスカー・ワイルドなど、多くの詩人たちもまた、その美意識を追求した。その意味ではアメリカのビート詩人、ジャック・ケルアックも私の中ではダンディのひとり。彼が書き残した「現代散文のための信条および技術」という30の覚え書きがある。私なりのオマージュも含めつつ「現代ダンディズムのための信条および技術」30をひそやかに記す。
さあさあ、そのおまえの中途半端な服はとっとと捨てて、素っ裸で、季節に袖を通すのだ。
Beliefs & Techniques for Modern Dandyism
Reach not through sleeves, but through the seasons.
Know that trends pass like evening showers.
If you start complaining, eat your pocket square.
Swim naked through the sea of fashion.
Rather than speak volumes, write a poem.
Toss your wristwatch in the river.
If you smell too sweet, you’ll attract only bees.
Know your style before you buy.
Never wear a bracelet.
Once every three years, throw it all away.
If you break a promise, be ready to end your life.
Curb reminiscence to three minutes a day.
Stop talking about money.
Count lovers and the raindrops.
Don’t smoke. Make clouds.
Burn fashion magazines before you read them.
Go take yourself to the cleaners.
Don’t catch a cold showing off your ankles.
Keep a tidy plate, even when eating alone.
Don’t use the smell of wine in metaphors.
Don’t waste time kissing up to youthful idiots.
If you’re feeling fancy, decimate your wardrobe.
Smash your iPhone. Call back your soul.
Don’t act like your umbrella is going to save you.
Remember the kindness in your pocket.
Don’t go around lying in a necktie.
Have a suit made. Live to laugh.
Read books. Wear books.
Don’t make a post. Make actual footprints.
Beat the masses. Love more through loneliness.

Dandyism transcends fashion. It’s about turning your back to the masses and living life with graceful independence. From Baudelaire to Lord Byron and Oscar Wilde, many poets mined this aesthetic vein. The Beat writer Jack Kerouac was a dandy too. He left behind a clutch of thirty maxims titled “Belief & Technique for Modern Prose.” As a humble homage, I offer you these thirty “Beliefs & Techniques for Modern Dandyism.” Time to throw away those rags, my friend. Stand naked to the world, reaching through the seasons.
